A Place in the Sun magazineA Place in the Sun, a TV show and magazine specialised in the sale of properties near the beach, have recently published a “Top Ten” ranking of the best countries to buy a holiday home, based on results from a survey they conducted.

For the second year running, Spain topped the list, followed by other popular destinations such as France, Portugal and Italy.

The reasons are pretty simple – Spain offers unbeatable access from the U.K. (with low-cost, direct flights to the Costa Blanca and Almeria from most major U.K. airports), together with the sun, the sea, the sand and the fiestas.  Spain also has a highly developed transport and touristic infrastructure, catering mainly for the British.

It isn’t a rare sight these days to be walking along one of the many beachfront promenades in Costa Blanca and see “fish & chips” advertised in bars and restaurants, with areas such as Orihuela Costa, Los Dolses, La Mata or Almeria boasting large ex-pat communities.

With the current economic crisis hitting Spain harder than other European countries, it really is the best time to “cash in” on this buyers market, with an interesting and varied offer of quality holiday homes at affordable prices across the Spanish Costa Blanca, Alicante, Costa Almeria, Canary Islands and Balearics.
